- Men As Allies Against Sexual Assault and Sexism
Women and Men are not from Venus and Mars! They’re both from the same planet, Earth, and they all have a personal stake in ending gender violence. This is a workshop (open to all genders) that explores the dynamics of gender socialization, violent behavior, and its impact on survivors. Includes discussion of healthy communication in a sexual relationship, sexual assault on college campuses, and how everyone can contribute to the awareness and prevention of sexual assault and sexism at school and in the community.
- Expectations of Impossible Perfection: Men and Body Image
Do you find that no matter how hard you work out and no matter how many protein shakes you drink, you still don’t look like an Olympic athlete? Men are feeling increasing pressure about the way they look, and often have unrealistic expectations of what is possible for their body type. This informative workshop will look at the messages men receive about their bodies, how those messages affect them, and what they can do to help form more positive self images.
- Masculinity in the Media: Moving Beyond the Marlboro Man
Are women made of sugar, spice, and everything nice? Are men made of snakes, snails, and puppy dog tails? What the heck does all that even mean? We live in a complicated world that often sends us conflicting signals about how we should live our lives. How and from where do we learn our identities and what are the consequences of the messages we receive? All genders are welcome at this exciting new workshop to explore the socialization process of gender identity.
- Men’s Health: Keeping Your Engine Tuned
Do you pay more attention to your car than you do to your body? Do you take your car to the mechanic every time you hear a weird noise or need a tune up, but have no idea when you need to get a physical, a cholesterol screening, or an STD test? We will talk about some health concerns specific to men, the risks associate with refusing to go to the doctor, alcohol, STDs, preventative maintenance, how often we need checkups, and many other related topics. Come to this informative workshop ready to learn and to ask questions.
